Frequently Asked Questions

We have put together the most common questions and answers regarding our services and the courses we offer below:

Why choose Site Engineer Training?

With a combined 35+ year’s experience working as Site/Senior Engineers in an array of sectors along with our industry leading 2 trainer policy, Jimmy and Gavin are well placed to teach the next generation of engineers.

Will I be a qualified engineer at the end of the training?

A lot of this will be determined by previous experience, being a competent Site Engineer involves both the skills that you will learn on our training alongside experience that you will gain in the workplace. What we will guarantee is that our training will accelerate your learning path and will give you the best foundations possible to succeed as a Site Engineer.

How is the course assessed?

We use a method called continual assessment in which delegates continually demonstrate that they have understood the task at hand through a range of techniques including answering question, practical demonstrations and group activities. The course criteria and learning objectives are issued at the beginning of the week and referred back to at the end of each day.

What certification do I get for completing the training?

Your achievements will be uploaded onto the construction training register upon successful completion. The 2 day levelling and taping, 3 day total station and 1 day robotic total station are all CITB recognised qualifications.

How long will the training last?

Our CITB assured Site Surveying and Setting Out training is 5 days long and this will cover the 2 day levelling and taping and 3 day total station training. The learning hours are 8am until 3pm. This allows those travelling a better opportunity of beating the traffic.

Will I get enough one to one time with the trainer to meet my learning needs?

We operate on an industry leading 1 trainer to 6 delegate policy. This is unrivalled amongst any other training provider. This allows us to meet the core syllabus for the whole group as well as focusing on individuals that need additional time or equally those who are ready to excel.

What total stations are used on the training?

We primarily use the robotic Leica TS16 with a CS20 controller as 77% of the construction industry uses this equipment. We can accommodate other equipment upon request of larger groups. All equipment we use is the latest technology used by Site Engineers.

Will I get enough exposure to the instruments?

Yes. We operate on a policy of 1 instrument between 2 people and we ensure everybody has equal opportunity to use the equipment.

How much of the training is practical and how much is in the classroom?

Our course replicates the processes of a live construction environment. We process the information efficiently in the classroom which equates to approximately 30% classroom time and 70% practical.

Will I get a job as a Site Engineer after completing the course?

Unfortunately, this is something that cannot be guaranteed. What we do have is a vast array of contacts that we have built up throughout our 35+ years in the industry that we will put those who excel in touch with and support once they leave our training.

Do I need experience in construction prior to coming on the course?

Not necessarily. Experience in the construction industry is certainly advantageous but this course also caters for beginners as well as those with experience. We have a 2 trainer policy which enables one of our trainers to ensure that nobody gets left behind.

Is there public transport to your training centre?

The training is based in Lutterworth which is a town in Leicestershire. The nearest train stations are Leicester City Centre and Rugby. Both have vast links across the country including London. There are buses available from the surrounding areas and the centre is a short walk from Lutterworth town centre.

Is this a residential course?

No, however we do partner with a local hotel within walking distance from the venue who can offer full board where necessary

Comments From Our Customers

5 Stars
  • The course has exceeded expectations. I didn’t think I would come away with as much knowledge as I have. I came on the course with very little knowledge on setting out with only ever seeing it being done on site. I now understand what the engineers have been doing, and why.

    Steve – Trainee Site Manager

  • Starting on the Monday going through the course content was initially daunting but each day I felt confident in achieving the criteria set out with the clear guidance given from the tutors on how to conduct each task accurately and to industry standard.

    Russ – Project Manager

  • Site Engineer Training is by far the best course I have ever attended. Value for money is a massive understatement. Jimmy and Gavin were absolutely awesome, explaining every detail and then handling the barrage of questions very patiently. They have set the bar very high in terms of course delivery and cannot wait to see how they develop courses in the future.

Iqubal - Chartered Civil Engineer and Developer

  • The SET+ Course was everything I’d expected it to be, reinforcing what I already know and learning new skills and different methods in the way I operate day to day.

    Ryan – Site Foreman

  • The training was vey informative, I learned a lot and the site specific scenarios laid out for the practical and the AutoCAD was particularly helpful. The CAD exam was quote tricky but I soon was able to put together what I had learnt to get through I took a lot away from all the training which helped prepare me for the real life scenarios.
