Levelling and Taping

2 Days

This 2-day course teachers the practices of using a tape measure and optical level (dumpy level). This includes incorporating checks, calibrating the equipment, carrying out a live level survey and transferring TBM’s.

Course Content

  • List the sources of error in taping
  • Checks to eliminate error in taping
  • Set out on sloping ground with a tape measure
  • Set out right angles and rectangles using a tape measure
  • List the sources of error in levelling
  • Checks to eliminate error in levelling
  • Record work to industry standard
  • Carry out a live level survey
  • Check the level for calibration (2 peg test)
  • Set up datums to a fixed level
  • Inverted staff readings for soffits
  • Transfer TBM’s (temporary bench marks)
  • Set up profile boards
