About Us

Constructing and delivering training courses using a combination of presentation, theoretical and group participation techniques that our team have developed with their 35 years of experience in the construction industry.

I joined Bowmer and Kirkland in 2007 as a Trainee Site Engineer. Throughout the following 6 years I worked on many large projects gaining site experience across different sectors within our industry, all whilst undertaking my apprenticeship and studying part time.

In December 2013 I felt the time was right for me to pursue my ambitions elsewhere, therefore I left Bowmer and Kirkland and set myself up as a freelance Senior Site Engineer. This move gave me the freedom to further develop my knowledge and experience with different clients and therefore different construction techniques.

I have since worked for well-established groundwork contractors and Tier 1 principle contractors to give me a broad and deep understanding of the Site Engineer role. Over a period of 15 years I have worked on a variety of projects in the UK, covering the commercial, civil, infrastructure and highways sectors.

My name is Gavin Taylor I started in the construction industry in 2004 as a graduate quantity surveyor, I quickly progressed into the role of design engineer within the groundwork’s sector of the construction industry, within this role I worked all over the UK gaining a range of skills from design to on-site practical experience.

After 4 years I moved into a site-based role setting out and surveying on projects all over the UK. Since 2007 I have worked on some of the biggest projects in the UK, covering the commercial, civil, infrastructure, highways & housing sectors.

I have been operating as a Senior Site Engineer for 10 years and in that role I have amassed an array of skills, including total stations, advanced AutoCAD, 3D modelling, digital terrain models, cut & fill analysis and machine control. Amongst my responsibilities I have been overseeing the development of graduate and trainee engineers for the last 6 years.

I feel that the wide cross-sectional area of the industry that I have had experience in, coupled with the specific and specialist skill set of a senior site engineer give me the background to deliver essential training to individuals that are looking to start in the industry.

  • The course has exceeded expectations. I didn’t think I would come away with as much knowledge as I have. I came on the course with very little knowledge on setting out with only ever seeing it being done on site. I now understand what the engineers have been doing, and why.

  • Site Engineer Training is by far the best course I have ever attended. Value for money is a massive understatement. Jimmy and Gavin were absolutely awesome, explaining every detail and then handling the barrage of questions very patiently. They have set the bar very high in terms of course delivery and cannot wait to see how they develop courses in the future.

Iqubal - Chartered Civil Engineer and Developer

  • The SET+ Course was everything I’d expected it to be, reinforcing what I already know and learning new skills and different methods in the way I operate day to day.

    Ryan – Site Foreman

  • The training was vey informative, I learned a lot and the site specific scenarios laid out for the practical and the AutoCAD was particularly helpful. The CAD exam was quote tricky but I soon was able to put together what I had learnt to get through I took a lot away from all the training which helped prepare me for the real life scenarios.
